Looks like the ebook deal gods have been smiling on me lately, because Will They or Won’t They is on sale for $1.99 today at all retailers (US only, sorry)!!! Turns out the way to get me to send a newsletter on a semi-regular basis is to keep putting my books on sale, since this is my only outlet to get the word out right now.
If, hypothetically, you recommended How To Fake it in Hollywood to someone when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago and they enjoyed it, maybe they would also enjoy this one! Or if they didn’t, maybe they want to give it a try anyway, because some people liked one but not the other. Or idk, you can figure out the best way to pitch it to them, they’re your someone, not mine.
Since we’re coming up on the one year anniversary of WTOWT’s release, I wanted to use this as an excuse to share a couple of cool small things that happened with it over the past few months. I spend a lot of time ruminating about the negative parts of my experience as an author, the ways I feel like I’m failing or underperforming or letting people down, and have the tendency to brush off the good things as “if I can do it it’s not that impressive” (yikes!). So, it feels important to celebrate those moments and try not to diminish them.
I don’t think HTFIIH was in many airports, if any, but last year I got a bunch of pictures from people who were seeing WTOWT pop up here and there. I did a lot of traveling last summer & fall and never found it, but at the end of January, I finally did!!! It was right up front on a Valentine’s Day display table in the Miami airport. When they asked if I wanted to take a picture, I was a little nervous about how gremlin-adjacent I would look because I woke up at four a.m. for the flight, but luckily I look like I slept until at least five-thirty.
Then, in March, I traveled to London for work, and stopped by Waterstones, the big bookstore chain there. Going into a bookstore as an author means bracing yourself not to be upset if they don’t carry your books, especially once they’re not new releases anymore, but… they did!! I found my book in another country!! Extremely exciting.
Also, since Waterstones doesn’t have a romance section, I’m shelved next to Oscar Wilde there, which really tickled me.
While we’re here, a reminder that we’re a little more than a week out from the launch event for Barely Even Friends by Mae Bennett at East City Bookshop. If you’re in the D.C. area, come check it out in person (or online if you’re not)!
To close this out on a personal note, I do a lot of vintage exercise videos on YouTube because I find them aesthetically soothing, and here are some important screenshots I’ve collected recently:
[Cher voice] okay that’s it!!! love you bye!!!
The exercise video clips are everything I've ever wanted and I love that you cropped out your husband because it was your moment lol
Being shelved next to Oscar Wilde reminds me of the time my niece told me “No wonder you’re a chemist! You’re so enthusiastic about your colleagues!”…I was doing quality control for a corn syrup manufacturer. She was telling me about all the Nobel winners she was learning about in 7th grade science class. There are always people who think you absolutely belong in impressive company even when you aren’t that confident. (And I loved both your books)
